1.       Pisco Sour
Pisco sour is a cocktail made of alcohol named pisco.  It is very popular in Chile and let’s say similar to rakia, schnapps, brandy, palinka. Pisco sour contains pisco, sugar, lemon and egg white. It is very delicious and not so strong (for me J ) There are many different sorts of cocktails which contains pisco, and the one which I also want to point out is Mango sour which obviously contains mango juice among the other ingredients.

2.       Empanadas
The pride of Chileans is definitely empanada. This is the first thing I heard about when I arrived in this beautiful country. An empanada is a kind of baked or fried pastry filled with many different kinds of ingredients. The most popular is ‘pino’ which is a seasoned mixture of ground beef, onions, hard boiled eggs, black olives, and raisins. There are also many others such as cheese and prawns, cheese and corn, just seasoned vegetables, chicken and vegetables, chicken and cheese, and many others.  The dough is easy to prepare and you can also buy it frozen in the supermarket. It is actually popular in many countries in Latin America as well as in Spain. Here in Chile you can buy it at every corner, in almost every supermarket or convenience store. You will definitely not stay hungry on the street.

3.       Churros
After eating an empanada, you can have a delicious dessert – churros. A churro is fried dough which is always long but it can be thin or thick. There are varieties of tastes you can choose: sugar, sugar and cinnamon, dark or white chocolate, Nutella, manjar. The same as empanadas, you can find churros at every corner.

4.       Sopaipilla
Sopaipilla is another fried pastry very popular in Chile. It is salty with a taste of pumpkin which is the ingredient of the dough. It’s eaten either with a sauce of onion, tomato, garlic, and herbs or with ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, cheese, or avocado. There is also a sweet sopaipilla where you put manjar on the top of it (sopaipilla con chancaca). It is usually round, flat and small.

5.       Manjar
Manjar is special kinds of sweet made of condense milk and sugar. It is similar to  dulce de leche. It means something like ‘jam of milk’ because it looks like some jam. It is very delicious and usually eaten with pancakes, churros, sopaipilla, some bread, cookies, muffins, waffles, and many other desserts.
